VW TDI BEW Skid Plate
One of the most frustrating repairs for any Volkswagen owner is a broken oil pan from rocks/road debris etc. What typically happens is over the years, the plastic cover that these cars come with gets lost, or one of the dealer techs forget to replace the mounting screws so it gets torn off on parking blocks etc. Driving a TDI Volkswagen with an exposed oil pan is a ticking time bomb. We routinely have cars towed into the shop with a busted oil pan and/or damaged engine internals from oil starvation. Now, we've installed our share of aftermarket skid plates for years and while there are full coverage skid plates available, NONE are user friendly to install or work around when servicing the vehicle. Once installed, in order to service ANYTHING (or if you drop a bolt/tools etc. while working on the vehicle), you'll have to remove the skid plate entirely (which is huge pain). Why put a $300 skid plate system on your vehicle when all you're really worried about protecting is the engine's oil pan? We designed our TDI skid plates with several key features:
Installs in under 10 minutes using factory threaded engine block holes
Less than 1/2 of the cost of a typical skid plate system
Built from Aircraft Grade aluminum
Easy to work around including unhindered access to the oil drain plug etc.
Comes with bolts and a link to installation instructions**
Fits: 2004-2005 Jetta/Golf + 2004-2006 NEW BEETLE with the BEW TDI engine.
Please Note: New Beetles have a small bracket that you will need to work around and is not pictured on the installation video/instructions.
LETTERING FOR ILLUSTRATIVE PURPOSES ONLY. All skid plates are fabricated using structual aircraft grade aluminum so some surface scratches are to be expected

I was off to visit a friend’s cabin on Lake Logan-Martin in Alabama and a combination of sketchy directions and a wrong turn put me on a road that gradually deteriorated into a 4-wheeler path. About the time I considered turning around, I realized that not only would it be difficult but I had gone down a hill that may be difficult to get back up. So I continued but eventually faced a upslope that the Jetta simply lacked the traction needed to climb. Happily I was close enough that a quick call to my buddy and he was enroute with his Kubota diesel 4wd utility vehicle. It easily got me up the hill and I began to follow him to his place. After safely navigating the goat path, I thought I was home free when I came upon the unfortunate combination of a dip combined with a large stone sticking up a couple of inches in the middle of the gravel road. As soon as I hit I thought “My oil sump!” A quick look in the mirror revealed no trail of oil or dark spot so I continued the 100 yards to the cabin. I looked under the car and while the Diesel Toys skid plate was damaged my sump was not only intact but good as new.
I removed the remains of the plate and hammered it back to shape but tossed it into the trunk for the eventual trip home. The lower bolt sheared off but I am convinced that the angle of the plate deflected the force and protected the sump otherwise it surely would have suffered catastrophic failure due to direct rock impact. I will be ordering another DT plate soon because it is certainly cost-effective, reliable insurance against sump damage and potential loss of the engine.

Truth be told, I had actually purchased a Panzer skid plate from dieselgeek and returned it after reading the complicated installation instructions and poor reviews. Stuck on a decision on whether to reinstall the factory plastic crappy belly pan or look for an alternative, google lead me to Diesel Toys. Despite feeling as though it was too good to be true, I clicked buy and within an hour had a shipping confirmation. The skid plate was on my door 3 days later and was well packaged. I think in total, the remnants of the factory belly pan took longer to remove than the Diesel Toys skid plate took to install. It fit perfectly and once I finished the installation, I remember wondering "did I forget something?" It was literally that simple. I've been rocking my Diesel Toys skid plate for 2 months now and have had no dramas. I cannot recommend this product highly enough.

Fits well, tidy install, really well put together product. I found that it actually fits underneath the factory plastic belly pan so Im extra-protected.
